Fortescue Metals Group is inviting Pilbara-based community organisations to apply for the latest round of its Community Grants program.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available to eligible applicants to help support community projects within the Town of Port Hedland, City of Karratha, Shire of Ashburton and Shire of East Pilbara. The biannual program helps to fund community projects, groups and initiatives that have a positive impact on Pilbara communities.
General Manager Hedland Operations Mark Komene said Fortescue’s Community Grants program helped provide economic and social opportunities within the Pilbara region.
“At Fortescue, we are proud to support community partners whose values and program objectives are aligned with ours to help us create economic opportunities and have a positive impact on our Pilbara communities,” he said.
As a grant recipient, the Karratha Hockey Association was able to purchase much-needed equipment such as specialised protective gear and training apparel for their players and a portable public announcement system for events.
President Steve Knight said: “Fortescue’s commitment to supporting organisations like ours is impressive and with their help we have been able to equip our players and coaches and improve our set up at events, which has been a massive boost for the association. Thank you to Fortescue for giving back to the community.”
During FY21, Fortescue provided 60 community grants totalling A$146,000 and a total of A$2.3 million has been awarded through this program to date.
