Pilbara Minerals has entered into a five-year education sponsorship with Teach Learn Grow, a not-for-profit organisation with a goal to bridge the education gap for children in rural and remote communities experiencing disadvantage.
The $60,000 (+GST) a year support makes Pilbara Minerals the major regional sponsor for the Pilbara.
TLG addresses educational disparity by providing primary school students with free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring delivered by inspiring and engaging volunteer university students.
Evidence-based learning strategies empower the students to improve their educational understanding in mathematics, STEAM, and a range of soft skills, as well as attitudes toward school, and support them to reach their full educational potential.
TLG’s flagship rural program takes teams of volunteers to schools across Western Australia to provide tailored one-on-one tutoring.
The rural program runs twice a year, once in June/July (Winter) and once in November/December (Summer).
Each volunteer tutor is assigned three to four students, with whom they work with two hours a day, over the school week, providing more than 10 hours of one-on-one tutoring in specific mathematics and STEAM outcomes.
The funding will allow TLG to offer its rural program to four schools in the Pilbara region twice a year.
The target schools are Yandeyarra, Marble Bar, and Strelley, and a school in Port Hedland.
