More than 100 year 12 students recently graduated from Hedland Senior High School, continuing the school’s commitment to providing a complete education option for the town’s students.
The 109 students were farewelled at a ceremony in the high school sports centre.
The size of the cohort was similar to 2023, when 116 students graduated.
Then principal Janine Keall told PHIC’s Community Industry Forum in 2022 that attendance rates were soaring, students were excelling in their chosen paths and the number of senior school students completing an ATAR program had increased.
She said providing access to a diversified and quality education helped to keep students and their families in town.
At the 2024 graduation, students were presented with their WACE Certificates along with their graduation folders, while several students were honoured with well-deserved gifts and awards.
Representatives from PHIC member companies attended and presented awards. Chair of HSHS Board, Jeanette Hasleby of Red Hawk Mining, presented the Dux of VET Award; Kate Holling, General Manager Rail BHP presented the Dux of ATAR Award; and Melinda Hayes from Pilbara Minerals presented the Female Student of the Year award; John Brereton of Fortescue presented the Academic Achievement Award; and Erin Green of Roy Hill presented the Values Award.
The 2024 School Captains, Amy Barnes and Beau Keller, formally announced the Student Leadership Team for 2025: Sienna Bennett, Ezekiel Uiduldam, Matilda Thompson, Maddison Fletcher, Crowley Jeptoo, Lenci Kiliswa, and Timothy Jorda.
Relieving Principal Mark Williams said the presentation evening was a gala event that “marked the culmination of 12 years of formal schooling for our students”.
“We celebrated their achievements and awarded prizes to those that excelled in specific learning areas.
“Students were able to share this milestone event with close family who supported them during their secondary schooling and in front of the teachers who guided them through their high school.”
Mike Ciccotosto has been appointed Principal and will start in Term 1 next year.
