DWER is working with industry to explore the feasibility of approvals under Regulation 17 of the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997.
Industry developed the Port Hedland Cumulative Environmental Noise Model (CNM) initially in response to a recommendation of the Port Hedland Dust Management Taskforce (2010). It was updated in 2016, 2019 and was most recently updated in 2023.
The 2023 Port Hedland Cumulative Environmental Noise Model (CNM) is intended to forecast the maximum overall noise levels due to the facility, rail, and road operations of PHIC members and tenants, under scenarios that represent current and future operations.
The CNM update shows that the predicted cumulative noise impacts from the various port facilities have decreased since the 2019 report.
